Good Morning all My Beautiful Gypsy Lovers…. I hope you are keeping warm if you are in my area… as Fall has hit. Brisk Cool Mornings… Brisk COLD Nights~!!~ After riding with T, helping his Ma with suppers…& well not being in the combine, I realized how lucky I was to sit in there with my hoodie & heater, as I froze my little buns off last night helping T move bins!

Since my fam finished up with Harvest on Tuesday, I have been helping T’s fam to finish up! I offered to do supper tonight to give T’s ma a rest, well more just one less thing to think about. So I am making one my favorite dishes that my Ma makes during the cool fall season. But I will share that with you on my next post! Because today I am sharing with you my first ever BAKING experience since T & I moved in together… (yes we have been living together for 2 years… I hate baking & I don’t have a mixer, or beaters.. or anything, so don’t judge & yes those are valid excuses..)

When I got home last night I whipped up an UpSide Down Peach Cake! I was so nervous & almost in tears because I didn’t want it to fail (Reason 110 why I don’t bake often or at all… It usually is a Disaster!!) But my Gramma made this for us through harvest & it was soooooo delicious that I had to have it again!!

UpSide Down Peach Cake (serves 6-8…serve warm)

Ingredients

3 tbsps unsalted butter
3/4 cup light brown sugar
3-4 large peaches, peeled and sliced thick (like 3/4-inch thick)
cake
8 tbsps butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs, room temperature
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup whole milk, room temp. (I used 1%)

Directions

Peel & slice peaches. Place in a nice arrangement on the bottom of you pan. I used a square stoneware pan (Pampered Chef, Love it & use it all the time!!). Next in a a frying pan add the butter & brown sugar. Heat until the sugar has dissolved & the mixture starts to bubble. Remove from heat. Turn oven on to Bake 350.

Next make your cake!! Since I’m not a baker I had to hand mix the cake.. this part was a little nerve racking for me at first because I wanted to make sure I had the right consistency..then I realized… “Hey this isn’t that hard!” 😉 So first mix the butter & the sugar until fluffy… (I kept thinking to myself here… IT’S SO FLUFFFFFYYY!!” from Despicable Me). Next WHIP in that Vanilla. Then Add 1 Egg… slowly mix it in… Then add Egg number 2!

Next add all your DRY ingredients in a separate bowl & mix. Then add HALF of the dry ingredients into the wet mixture… next add your milk… then add the rest of your dry ingredients.

NOW…. Drizzle the brown sugar mixture over your peaches…. Then add the cake batter. Smooth the cake batter all over the peaches. Then throw it in the oven. I baked mine for 45 minutes & it was perfect!! (or so it looks… I have not taken a bite yet). But as long as the cake had pulled away from the edges & when you stick a fork or toothpick in the middle no raw batter comes up. So pending on your oven it can bake anywhere from 45-60 minutes.

Then finally when its done, pull it out & let it sit for 20 minutes or so to cool. Then if you wish (I’m not trying this) you can flip the cake upside down onto a serving plate… this will display your beautiful peaches & carmelization! TaaDaa… its that simple.

The only reason why I am not attempting the flip.. is so far I have not failed on this recipe & I feel that could be a clumsy disaster for me… & secondly I will be hauling this out to the field so it will be easier to transport this way.

It hit me! This would make for a great blog post!! Cause I know for damn sure I am not the only one that is going through this. So keep looking back for my posts as I attempt to budget “clothes shopping” on my paycheck… but with this being said I will be doing a MASSIVE cleanse of my closet as well.. I mean my go to shirt is well over 5 years old.. & getting rather sad looking, & its just getting darn right depressing & frustrating!!!

My style is slowly changing from boring to Cute & Classy! So I want a FRESH start~!!~ Whose with me!??!

Mason Jar Soap Dispenser

Hi All…. well my family was able to wrap up harvest last night… but I’m not off the hook quite yet. T’s family has a few more days, so I best do my part to help them finish up!!

Since I have been a big ole SLACKER.. I thought I would do a quick post for you all. Its a fun DIY project that I did a while back… but haven’t shared with you all yet.

Supplies

Mason Jar

Old Soap Dispenser Pump

Spray Paint (colour of your choice)

Hot Glue Gun/Super Glue

Drill or Punch

Glass beads.. or something else of your choice

First take the tin lid off your mason jar. Find a drill bit or punch that is close to the same size as the top of your soap pump (where it will sit on top of the lid). Center the lid & create the hole. Then put a very small trace of glue around the top end of the soap pump and put it through the hole to where it will sit on top of the lid. Let it dry.

Next I wrapped the top of the soap pump in tin foil. I placed the soap pump lid contraption in an old pop can (makes for a good stand) & spray painted the lid! I used an all purpose spray paint (metal & wood surfaces). You can spray paint the lid prior to placing the pump in the lid, but this is just the way that worked for me.

While the paint is drying, I placed a few brown toned glass beads in the bottom of the jar & filled it up with soap. If you choose not to do this is will still look SUPER cute 😉 Then screw the lid back on & there you have it. A cute unique soap dispenser jar for your bathroom. I am going to make on of these for each of my bathrooms, in different colours to match the rooms. Best part is… if you change the look of your bathroom you can just repaint your lid!

Also I added some teal yarn around the top & made a cute little bow. Ribbon would look great too!!

Half Way Through the 30 Day “BE ACTIVE” Challenge!!

So we have made it half way through the 30 Day Be Active Challenge!! I hope you have all been staying active & enjoying every minute of this Indian Summer we have been having.

I have also been sticking true to my 30 Day Squat Challenge… Yesterday was the only day I had completely forgot to do my sqauts… & it was the first day in 2 weeks I have been home before 11pm! Not sure how that worked… but I did them today & I will carry onto Day 12 tomorrow~!!~ 🙂

New 30 Day Challenge~!!~

Good Morning My Readers!!

How was/is everyone’s summer going…? It’s been absolutely beautiful weather here in Alberta the last little while… almost too hot at times! But luckily most of us (like me) get to enjoy the luxury of the Air Conditioner in the combine.

I was a little sad when the 30 day photo challenge was over.. it was a lot of fun & I enjoyed seeing everyone’s photos. Plus I was excited that I totally rocked the goal!! With this, I decided to start a new 30 day challenge. Its “BE ACTIVE” for 30 days. It is a bit of a tough time right now to make time to workout if you are a farming gal… but I feel it can still be done! Anything counts… instead of waiting in the field for your ride, start walking, or do jumping jacks… or climb up & down the combine. It doesn’t have to be anything big… just something active. Ride your horse, Ride your bike, Walk to the shop, anything is better then nothing!

Here is what I have done so far… I started on September 1st… but you all can join in TODAY 🙂

Day 1 – Went for a 20 minute bike ride… So out of shape!!! But glad I reached my marker. 🙂

Day 2 – Went for a ride.. then took my pony for a walk/jog around the farm yard.

I was looking on Pinterest… (of course… who doesn’t) for some fitness inspiration… & I found a 30 Day Squat Challenge! I was in a good routine of doing squats, to help build up my bad knee, but the last little while I got away from doing them… with this being said.. I am going to start the 30 Day Squat Challenge today.. & work it into my “Be Active!”.

“Squat challenges are all the rage now, and while it certainly is an accomplishment to work your way up to 200, 500, or even 1,000 squats (yikes!), doing the same kind only works certain muscles. Here’s a new challenge for you to try. It involves five different squat variations that you repeat and eventually work up to 200 reps in 30 days.

Here are instructions for the five different variations followed by a 30-day plan to get you all the way to 200. It’s not advised to skip right to day 30 if you want to be able to walk the next day, so follow the plan and adjust it slightly according to your schedule and ability level.

Number 1: Narrow Squat

  • Stand with your feet touching. Hold your hands comfortably in front of your chest to help you stay balanced and bend your knees, lowering your hips deeply, bringing your thighs parallel with the floor if you can. Be sure to keep weight back in your heels.
  • Then rise back up, straightening the legs completely, squeezing the glutes at the top of the movement to get the most out of the exercise.
  • This counts as one rep.

Number 2: Narrow Squat With Back Kick

  • Stand with your feet touching. Hold your hands comfortably in front of your chest or on your hips, and bend your knees, lowering your hips deeply so your thighs are parallel with the floor. Be sure to keep weight back in your heels.
  • Then rise back up, straightening the legs completely, and lift the left leg behind you for a back kick. Lower the foot back to the floor in a narrow squat position.
  • Do another squat, then straighten the leg, do a back kick with the right leg, and step the right foot back to meet the left.
  • This counts as one rep.

Number 3: Basic Squat

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width distance apart, feet parallel. Hold your hands out in front of you for balance. Bend your knees, lowering your hips deeply, bringing your thighs parallel with the floor if you can, keeping weight back in your heels.
  • Then rise back up, straightening the legs completely, squeezing the glutes at the top of the movement to get the most out of the exercise.
  • This counts as one rep.

Number 4: Basic Squat With Side Leg Lift

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width distance apart, feet parallel. Hold your hands out in front of you for balance. Bend your knees, lowering your hips deeply so your thighs are parallel with the floor, keeping weight back in your heels.
  • Then rise back up, straightening the legs completely, and lifting the left leg out to the side, squeezing the outer glute.
  • As you step the foot back into shoulder-width distance position, squat down again. Then stand up and do a side leg lift on the right side. Lower the leg back to the starting position.
  • This counts as one rep.

Number 5: Sumo Squat

  • Stand with your feet wide, toes pointing out. Hold your hands comfortably in front of your chest to help you stay balanced and bend your knees, lowering your hips deeply so your thighs are parallel with the floor. Make sure to keep weight back in your heels
  • Then rise back up, straightening the legs completely, squeezing the glutes at the top of the movement to get the most out of the exercise.
  • This counts as one rep.

The Plan
Unlike other squat challenges, this involves five different variations to not only sculpt your legs and booty more effectively, but also to beat boredom and prevent overuse injuries. This plan incorporates rest days, so while you can hold off on squats that day, you can (and should) still do other workouts to target your non-squatting muscles.”
